CAN in Automation offers the service of an official test laboratory, where CANopen devices can be certified. The rules and regulations for testing CANopen devices can be found here. CANopen device certification is worth manufacturers’ as well as customers’ while:

• manufacturers can prove to their customers that their products are CANopen compliant
• customers can be sure, that CiA certified devices are CANopen compliant
• certification by a neutral third party is more trustworthy than device self certification by the manufacturer

CANopen conformance testing

CANopen specifications enable device manufacturers to develop CANopen devices, which interoperate properly in a multi vendor CANopen network. A prerequisite for interoperability is a CANopen implementation that is 100% compliant to the well-established CANopen specification EN 50325-4. The CANopen conformance test assures:

• interoperability between CANopen devices
• high quality of the CANopen implementation
• common interpretation of the CANopen specification
